Counselling and psychotherapy in Horsham
BACP-registered therapy with one named therapist who stays with you, in person at Horsham Therapy Rooms (RH12) or online. The first step is a free 15-minute chat.
You have probably been managing this for a while. From the outside, nothing looks wrong. Inside, the margin has been getting thinner, and you have started to wonder whether talking to someone might help.
If you have been searching for a counsellor, a psychotherapist or a therapist in Horsham, this page is for you. Eunoia Health is a private psychological therapy practice based in the town. We work with adults who are coping on the outside and carrying more than they let on, and we see people in person in Horsham and online across the UK.
There is no questionnaire and nothing to prepare. You book a free 15-minute chat, we talk about what is going on, and we tell you honestly whether we are the right fit. If we are not, we will say so and point you somewhere better.
Counselling, psychotherapy or therapy in Horsham: what we mean by each
People search for all three, and usually they mean the same thing: a trained professional to talk to, in confidence, about something that has become hard to carry alone.
Counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably, and in practice the line between them is blurred. Counselling tends to describe shorter, more focused work around a particular difficulty. Psychotherapy tends to go deeper into patterns that have been there longer. At Eunoia we do both, and we would rather talk about what you need than argue about labels.
A psychologist holds a postgraduate degree in psychology and may also assess and diagnose. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication. Eunoia's therapists are BACP-registered, which means we are bound by a professional code of ethics, we work under clinical supervision, and we will tell you plainly if what you need sits outside what we offer and help you find it.
What we can help with at our Horsham practice
Most people who come to us in Horsham are dealing with anxiety: racing thoughts, tension, avoiding things, lying awake running through what might go wrong. Often it is the kind that nobody else can see, because the person carrying it is still performing well at work and at home. We have written about high-functioning anxiety if that sounds like you.
We also work with OCD and intrusive thoughts, health anxiety, depression and low mood, burnout and work stress, grief and bereavement, and sleep difficulties. We offer therapy for adults with ADHD and autism, and we are clear about the boundary: we do not provide diagnosis, assessment or screening.
If what you are dealing with is not on that list, it does not mean we cannot help. You can see everything we work with, or simply tell us in the free chat.
How we work: therapy that is designed to end
Our approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, usually shortened to ACT. ACT does not try to silence difficult thoughts and feelings, which rarely works for long. It changes your relationship with them, so that they take up less room and you can act on what matters to you rather than on what you are trying to avoid.
We believe therapy should aim to end. That means short, purposeful episodes of work rather than an open-ended arrangement. We measure where you start, using GAD-7, PHQ-9 and AAQ, and we review progress with you as we go, so you can see the change rather than take our word for it.
You work with one named therapist for the whole course. No rotating practitioners, no algorithm deciding who you see. Sessions are 50 minutes, and the first full session is a 60-minute assessment.
Where to find us in Horsham
In-person sessions take place at Horsham Therapy Rooms in the centre of town (RH12), in the building just behind the old town hall. It is a short walk from Horsham railway station and the Carfax, with public car parks nearby.
Because we are in the town centre, we are easy to reach from Southwater, Broadbridge Heath, Warnham, Billingshurst and the villages in between. If you are coming from further afield, our West Sussex page covers the rest of the county and the Surrey border.
Horsham appointments are available on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which means you do not have to take time off work to see someone in person. If those days do not suit, online sessions run Wednesday to Friday.
In person in Horsham, online, or both
Some people want to be in the room. Some would rather not be seen walking into a therapy building in a town where they know people. Both are reasonable, and you can choose either, or move between them as life requires.
Online sessions use a secure video link and work in exactly the same way, with the same therapist. If you start in Horsham and later move, change jobs or simply find it easier to talk from home, nothing is lost.
What happens next
You book a free 15-minute chat with us. It is a conversation, not an assessment. We will ask what has brought you here and tell you honestly whether we think we can help.
If we are the right fit, the next step is a 60-minute initial assessment with your therapist, in Horsham or online. You talk through what has been happening, we take a baseline using GAD-7, PHQ-9 and AAQ, and together we agree where the work should focus.
After that, sessions are usually weekly. You stay with the same therapist throughout, and we review progress with you so that the work stays pointed at what matters.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a GP referral to see a counsellor in Horsham?
No. You can book directly with us without a referral. If you are hoping to use private health insurance, some insurers do ask for a GP referral first, so it is worth checking your policy.
Are you counsellors, psychotherapists or psychologists?
We are BACP-registered therapists. We offer both the shorter, focused work people usually call counselling and the deeper work people usually call psychotherapy, within the ACT approach. If what you need is a diagnosis or medication, that sits with a psychologist or psychiatrist, and we will help you find the right route.
Do you offer low-cost counselling in Horsham?
Fees are explained in the free chat, so you know exactly where you stand before you commit to anything. Students receive a reduced rate on online sessions with proof of enrolment, and online sessions suit anyone for whom travelling into town adds to the cost. Tell us your situation in the free chat and we will help you work out the format that fits.
Can I use private health insurance?
Yes. Our fees can be covered by Vitality, WPA, Healix Health, Healthcode, General & Medical Insurance and Allianz Partners. Check your policy for any excess or referral requirement, and mention your insurer in the free chat so we can get the paperwork right from the start.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on you and what you bring. Because our work is designed to end, we are not interested in keeping you longer than you need. We agree a focus at the assessment, review progress with you as we go, and finish when the work is done rather than when a set number of sessions runs out.
Can I switch between sessions in Horsham and online?
Yes. You keep the same therapist whichever you choose, and you can move between in-person and online sessions as you need to.
What if I am in crisis?
We are not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E. If you need to talk to someone urgently, Samaritans are available on 116 123, free, at any time of day or night. If you are not in crisis but things feel urgent, book the free chat and we will help you work out the next step.
Ready to talk?
Fifteen minutes. One honest conversation. No preparation needed, and if we are not the right fit for you, we will tell you and point you somewhere better.
